No props, no costumes, no lights: improv is by far the most accessible form of theater. At its heart, improv is play and imagination, which is part of our common heritage as human beings. Oak Park Improv is a non-profit group committed to making spaces available in our community for people to come together and play without financial barriers.
The worlds we create in improv thrive because we support each other and lift each other up. No one goes onto an improv stage alone: we feel free to be our weirdest, truest selves because we know our team is always there to back us up.
Absolutely anyone can improvise. And even when we play fantastical characters, we always bring part of ourselves to the stage. Derogatory jokes or humor that excludes people is antithetical to the spirit of improv.
